Divergent

Hey fellow readers! I know I'm a day late on my Divergent review but my internet crashed yesterday. So here it is a day late. Divergent is the story of Beatrice Prior who lives in dystopian Chicago. Chicago is divided into five factions. Abnegation, the selfless. Dauntless, the brave. Amity, the peaceful. Erudite, the intelligent. And Candor, the honest. Beatrice is 16 which means aptitude tests, Choosing Day, and initiations.Aptitude tests will tell the 16 year olds which faction they belong in. When Beatrice takes hers, she discovers she is Divergent. It means, in non-spoiler terms, she belongs in multiple factions. She cannot tell a soul. It is dangerous to be Divergent. Soon Choosing Day arrives. That is when all 16 year olds decide if they will stay with the faction they were born in, or become a member of another faction. Beatrice does not know what to do. She feels much too selfish for her Abnegation family. I won't tell what faction she chooses for the sake of spoilers, but the book then goes to her initiation. The process of being accepted into a faction. Beatrice also falls in love with an initiate leader that had a secret. There is a huge shock at the end of the book and Beatrice learns what it means to be brave. This 487 page book is truly fantastic. Veronica Roth at such a young age has accomplished a lot in this book as well as Insurgent. I did not put the book down for more than 20 minutes and read it in one day. You will be up all night with Divergent. I highly suggest reading it.
